17 die in South Kaduna attack

Last night, in the Ungwan Wakili community in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, there was an attack. 17 deaths were recorded. Two of the 17 died in the hospital.

The residents are shocked at this attack. This is because the area has been peaceful. Although there have been few complaints between the locals and the Fulani. Next, the military on ground suggested that the attack might be due to the killing of a Fulani herdsman four days ago. Furthermore, the killing of the herdsman is in retaliation for the killing of one of the locals last month.

Equally important, the council chairman, Zango Kataf Local Government, Mr. Francis Sani Zimbo, condemned the attack. He also assured that investigations were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Apparently, the Mobile Police checkpoints in the affected areas were withdrawn before the attack. Again, Mr. Francis expresses regrets for this.

The locals are in shock. They also have some questions. It’s a wonder how an attack lasted for 40 minutes and not a single attacker was killed. Even with the presence of a forward operating base within the community, no suspect was caught.

After attack curfew

Following the attack, the Kaduna State government imposed a 24-hour curfew in some communities of the Zango-Kataf Local Government Area. Yabo Chris Ephraim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Executive Chairman, Zangon Kataf Local Government Council, releases a statement.

He said the curfew was to enable soldiers to restore peace in the area.

The communities under the curfew include Ungwan Juju, Mabuhu, Ungwan Wakili, and Zango Urban in Kaduna State.
