Tragedy occurred on Wednesday morning as a commercial bus driver lost his life in an accident. His bus somersaulted following a collision with a BRT bus. The driver is yet to be identified. Furthermore, the accident occurred on the Ifako Bridge inward from Ogudu on the Oworonshoki Expressway in Lagos.
According to an eyewitness, the fully loaded commercial bus was coming from Lagos Island. Then, it was heading to the Ojodu Berger area of the state when the accident occurred. After the accident, the body of the commercial bus driver was lying beside the upturned bus.
Afterwards, hoodlums in the area quickly set the BRT bus ablaze. The incident resulted in a gridlock between Gbagada and Oworonshoki.
The Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, Adebayo Taofik, has further confirmed the accident.He said LASTMA officers were on the ground controlling the traffic.
They would clear the road for easy movement for commuters. Lastly, he also said traffic police officers had been deployed to ensure the free flow of traffic on the expressway.
This adds to the number of fatal road accidents for the year in Lagos. The number is truly alarming.
