The American Grammy award-winning singer, Anita Pointer has passed away at the age of 74 after battling cancer.
Anita Pointer is famous for being one of the founding members of The Pointers- an R&B group.
She delighted fans across the world with hits including “I’m So Excited,” “Jump,” and “Fire.”
In collaboration with sisters June and Ruth, the group from Oakland, California released their first album in 1973 before going on to win three Grammy Awards.
Roger Neal reported the death of her client, Anita Pointer on Instagram, saying that her client, Grammy winner Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters has passed away.
Anita died on New Year’s Eve at her home in Los Angeles where she was surrounded by family, Neal told CNN.
Pointer’s family in a statement said they are comforted in knowing that Anita is now with her daughter, Jada, and her Sisters June and Bonnie and at peace, though they are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita.
“Heaven is a more loving beautiful place with Anita there.” They added.
Pointer’s life has not been all fun as she experienced some tragedies before her death. In 2003, her only child, Jada Pointer, died from cancer age of just 37. She went on to raise her granddaughter Roxie McKain Pointer.

The Pointers Sisters
Anita Pointer’s group- The Pointer Sisters released their eponymous debut album in 1973. ‘Yes We Can Can,’ a tune that called for unity and tolerance at a time of racial unrest in the US.

Also, In 1975, their hit song, Fairytale, won a Grammy award for Best Country Vocal Performance.
The group almost disbanded in 1979 after Bonnie Pointer left to pursue a solo career, but the remaining sisters regrouped and went on to shed their previously retro image for a modern pop sound.
However, The Pointer Sisters have won three Grammy Awards and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994. The group had 13 US top 20 hits between 1973 and 1985.
