IWD2023, Google Celebrates Women

Every year, on the 8th of March, the International Women’s day is commemorated. The theme of IWD2023 is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.”

Google decided to go all out and celebrate women today, IWD2023. Google on its social media platform wrote a celebratory message to all women, “Celebrating women who grow and build together, and support each other; today, tomorrow, and every day #GoogleDoodle #IWD2023.”

 

 

Today, the International Women’s day, Google has announced the launch of three new intiatives. They include: the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa: Women Founders Cohort, the Hustle Academy for Women-Led SMEs, and a social media series celebrating inspiring women in Africa’s technology sector.

Talking about the intiatives, Head of Startup Ecosystem, Africa, Folarin Aiayegbusi, noted that the firm is elated to announce selected startups for the inaugural class of our Google for Startups Accelerator Africa: Women Founders Cohort. Furthermore, these are women who have been tackling some of Africa’s pressing issues. Besides, Google is glad to support them and be a part of the future these women are building.

 

Next, Google explained that it’s hustle academy is a boot camp style training program. It is designed to help entrepreneurs build revenue, position themselves for investments and then, build lasting businesses.

Google will host six cohorts of the women-focused hustle academy. Further, the firm has chosen Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa throughout the month of March. This is an innovation for IWD2023.

 

Equally important is the fact that it has selected 15 startups from Nigeria, and seven other African countries for the initiatives. The Head of Communications, Google Africa, Dorothy Ooko, added that Google, is interested in providing for women entrepreneurs. What’s more, Google will provide them with access to funding, mentorship, and networking opportunities.

 

 

According to the firm, the startups selected for the for Startups Accelerator Africa Women Founders Cohort includes, Afriwell Health (Congo), Alajo App (Nigeria), eWaka (Kenya), Farmer Lifeline (Kenya), Maxibuy (Nigeria), MosMos (Kenya), Gobeba (Kenya), Hepta Pay (Rwanda), Jem HR (South Africa), Kola Market (Ghana), Mipango (Tanzania), Smart Ikigega (Rwanda), Suitch (Cameroon), Tyms Africa (Nigeria), and Zydii (Kenya).

 

Finally, IWD2023 is a celebration for all that women do and what they can become.
