Abdul-Azeez Adediran aka Jandor, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has ruled out any chances of an alliance with the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
People who believe that the All Progressive Congress (APC) has overstayed it’s welcome in the rulership of Lagos state have championed an alliance between both heavyweight opposition parties.
After the LP’s unprecedented victory in the presidential poll, the call for both parties to become allies got louder.
In a live interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Jandor has silenced all hopes of a union between the two parties. According to him, his project is beyond the desire of being a governor. Besides, he stated that he could have been a governor where he was coming from.
Jandor said that the PDP tabled the matter when the news of an alliance started going round. He added, “We came ourselves to look at the issue and say, ‘Within us, what do we want to do? Do we want to put an end to a dynasty that has held us by the jugular for over two decades? Where do we go from here?” The PDP decided to look at the matter critically.
LP’s COURT CASES
They noted that the Labour Party candidate still has a case on his candidacy which is currently at the Supreme Court.
It was also discovered again that the Labour Party candidate also has an issue with Section 77 of the Electoral Act. The section says if you’re leaving a particular party to another one, you must have been there, at least, for one month, that is, the party register would have been with INEC 30 days before that party primary.
Equally important, Jandor added that in post-election litigation, the legal issue might come up. He likened the matter to sitting on a keg of gun powder.
Finally, Jandor said the party has no issues with an alliance. It’s only a case of going into the election with the best foot forward. They are only careful to go in without any snag whatsoever.
