Moses Ojo, cashier of the Eat ‘N’ Go Limited, operating at the company’s Coldstone Creamery branch in Abule Ado, has fled. He reportedly fled during his arraignment at a magistrate’s court sitting in the Apapa area of the state.
The company the cashier worked for specifically suspected its workers of fraudulent transactions. Further, the company believed that the workers were using their own accounts for the transactions.
While tracing those involved, the company reported the incidents to the police. During the investigation, the cashier, Ojo, was arrested. Ojo’s sister explained that a customer was having transfer issues. Then, the customer begged her brother if he had an Opay or Palmpay account. The cashier affirmed that he did. The customer begged him for help. Ojo initially refused as it was against the company’s policy. But the customer pleaded, and he agreed. After the transaction, Ojo transferred the money to the company account and informed the general manager. The general manager said he (Ojo) should have told him before helping, as nobody would believe he was trying to render assistance.
Apparently, he was reported to the head office and taken to the police station later.
At the Court
Afterwards, the cashier’s mother went to the station, and the DPO advised that she beg the GM. The GM refused, saying the boy must go to jail. Last Wednesday, the boy was taken to court. The sitting magistrate insisted that N11,000 wasn’t a court case and urged them to settle out of court. Somehow, by the end of the court proceedings, the boy was nowhere to be found.
Hence, the boy’s mother was accused of helping her son escape. As of Saturday, the boy’s sister, Nifemi, said when she visited her mother in the cell that they were demanding bail of N50,000. It was the magistrate’s order that extra charges be added for helping her son escape.
