Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has banned illegal taxes levied by Agberos in the state. The Chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Association, MC Oluomo, intervened in the ongoing conflict. This conflict is between commercial drivers and highway tax collectors known as Agberos.
Earlier on Thursday, most commercial drivers took to the streets to protest the illegal levies. The drivers termed it “extortion,” as there was no written law to back up the tax imposed on them.
Therefore, MC Oluomo held a meeting with the state council on Thursday afternoon. It was agreed that no driver from Oshodi to Tollgate must be compelled to pay illegal agbero taxes anymore. Also, they are only allowed to buy two tickets a day and nothing else aside from loading fees.
The normal ticket sold and approved by the Lagos State Park Management is just N800. He said those extra tax imposed at Iyana Ipaja and Agbado Ijaiye were no longer valid. They can either buy their daily recognized tickets in Oshodi or Tollgate.
Additionally, MC Oluomo mandated that no driver should buy a ticket on Saturdays and Sundays. A driver added that this will be a chance to have something tangible to take home at the end of the day. Then, MC Oluomo also donated N1 million to those who were injured during the attack on protesting drivers.
Finally, drivers can resume work today with minimal disturbances.
