In reaction to the presidential candidate endorsement by Nigeria’s former president, Obasanjo, Reno Omokri said that the former president has always wanted a president from the South East.
Reno took to his Twitter page to speak on Obasanjo’s choice of a presidential candidate. He described Obasanjo as a good-hearted man and said the former president wants a president from South East to heal the wounds from the civil war of 1967 – 1970.
Reno who had been an aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and an avid supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar tweeted;
“Obasanjo is a good-hearted man. He has always wanted a president from SE or close to SE as a way to heal the civil war wounds. In 2007, he wanted Peter Odili, but Yar’adua insisted on Governor Jonathan as VP.”
He still added that what Obasanjo did will not affect the election.
Recall, that in the New Year letter released by the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo he expressly projected Peter Obi as his preferred Presidential Candidate after stating that Peter Obi is his mentee and has an edge in the 2023 elections.
Aside from Reno Omokri, the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have vehemently protested against Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi.
Also, both parties, APC and PDP claimed that Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi would have no electoral value at the forthcoming polls
Further more, in response to Obasanjo’s new year message, the Director, Media, and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu, would not lose sleep over the endorsement of his Labour Party counterpart by the former president.
While the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba said that the important thing is the endorsement of the of the Nigerian people.The endorsement of an individual no matter how highly placed does not translate to victory at the polls.
