President Buhari appoints new Director General as the end of his tenure draws closer
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Buhari has appointed a new Director General of (NYSC) National Youth Service Corps.
General Y. D Ahmed will take over the leadership of NYSC on Monday, 30 January 2023 as the new Director-General of NYSC.
She will be taking over from Christy Uba, who was initially appointed as the head of NYSC in an acting capacity after the previous Director General, Mohammed Fadah was retrieved from his job over alleged incompetence, corruption, nepotism, religious bias, and poor performance.
Christy was director of information and communications technology, at NYSC, before taking over the role of acting NYSC Director General.
Furthermore, a letter was written on behalf of the Governing Board of NYSC by its chairman, Fatima Abubakar on 2 September 2023, and addressed to the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare lister a lot of issues against the Director General.
In addition, the letter noted that some of the petitions against Mr. Fadah raised doubts about his academic qualifications and age.
Also stating that the board had earlier called and spoken to the DG concerning the allegations “but failed to fulfill his promise to change.
Fadah’s removal from office came less than seven months after he assumed office. He took over in May 2022 and became the 19th person to hold the position of NYSC DG.

What is NYSC?
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government during the military regime of Yakubu Gowon.
NYSC was created to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the development of the country.
Both universities and polytechnics have been involved in NYSC.
