Three 40-foot container fall in Lagos  

 

 

Three 40-foot containers fell in Lagos on Friday at different times and areas. These incidents happened at Ikeja Underbridge, Mile 12, and Ojuelegba areas of Lagos State. What’s more, the 40-foot container is very heavy and can crush buses.

 

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) made a report at around 6:55 a.m. on Friday morning. They stated that a 40-foot container fell off a trailer on Ojuelegba Bridge inward Stadium. In addition, traffic was diverted on the bridge as the incident blocked the entire main carriageway.

LASTMA’s tweet reads, “#Ojuelegba #RoadIncident A 40-foot container fell off a trailer on Ojuelegba Bridge inward Stadium blocking the entire main carriage way now. Diversion in progress thru the Ojuelegba service lanes. It was reported that men of the Nigerian Police Force were on ground to aid in the evacuation.

 

 

Next, the second incident occurred near the General Hospital at Ikeja Underbridge. According to LASTMA, the container fell at 7 a.m. The second tweet reads, “#RoadIncident.” A fallen 40-foot container-laden truck fell at General Hospital under bridge Ikeja. It needs to be offloaded before recovery is done. Personnel fully on the ground managing traffic accordingly.”

 

Again, on Friday afternoon, another container fell at the Mile 12 area of the Ikorodu road. The traffic management authority said that there is currently no access through the service lane. Furthermore, LASTMA noted that there were no casualties recorded.

The agency tweeted, “A fallen 40-foot container is at Demurin Junction inwards Ile Ile/Mile 12, and there is no access through the service lane presently.”

“Effort is on for recovery while our officers are on scene managing the situation effectively.” “No casualties were recorded.”

 

Previous Incidents

Again, we should recall that in February, it was reported that two containers fell off the back of a trailer on the Mile 12 bridge outbound Ikorodu. The incident caused heavy traffic in the area.

Finally, in January 2023, two containers fell off the Ojuelegba bridge. In one of the incidents, the container crushed the occupants of a commercial bus to death. Furthermore more, all these accidents are occurring in Lagos, the commercial city of Nigeria. Are lives safe out there?
