Liverpool re-signs Captain Bonner to the Club

Liverpool football club has re-signed former captain and women’s super League champion, Gemma Bonner.

The 31-year-old defender will return to the club for a spell beginning 1 January.
Her past record shows that she led Liverpool to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014 before leaving for Manchester City in 2018.

Captain Bonner feeling elated expressed herself saying that she is excited to be back and can’t wait to pull the Liverpool shirt on again and get out there to get playing with Liverpool.

“It’s a pretty moment for me,” she said.

Still speaking on renewed contract, Bonner knows within herself that one day she would come back to Liverpool.

For Bonner, one of the proudest things she’s done is lifting trophies always.

Bonner’s 115 appearances on her previous six-year contract with Liverpool remain the second-highest for the club.

The signing will also reunite the center-back with manager Matt Beard, who steered Liverpool from 2012-2015 and had spells at Boston Breakers, West Ham, and Bristol before returning in 2021.

Beard who also managed Bonner at Chelsea before they both joined Liverpool saw the move as a great one. For him, “It was too good an opportunity to pass up bringing Gemma back to the football club.”

He also expressed the great working relationship they both had and believes Bonner will bring her leadership and experience to the team.

Having won everything in England with Liverpool and Man City and has now gotten the American experience to expose her to different football cultures.
