Not less than 5 people have been reported dead and 10 others missing after a boat conveying Migrants sank off the Tunisian coast as it tried to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.
The Migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa have been confirmed by authorities though the Tunisian coastguard was able to rescue others from the Mediterranean on Saturday.
Faouzi Masmoudi, the district attorney of the port city of Sfax added that boats were continuing to scout the waters off Sfax for any more survivors.
Parts of the Tunisian coastline lie less than 150 kilometers from the Italian island of Lampedusa, making it a favored departure point for migrants to risk the dangerous sea crossing.
Also, According to the FTDES right group, more than 23,500 Migrants of various nationalities were intercepted in Tunisia between January and September 2022.
And in the same period, more than 500 people died or disappeared in the same area.

The so-called central Mediterranean route, which also includes boat launchings from neighboring Libya, is the world’s most deadly migration pathway.
Furthermore, according to the latest United Nations report, nearly 1,400 migrants died crossing different parts of the Mediterranean in 2022.
Most of those who set off are from countries like Somalia, Eritrea, and Sudan – the boats that set off from Tunisia also carry people from Syria and Egypt.
