APC chairman and others arrested over alleged Killings in Ebonyi State

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman and others have been arrested over alleged Killings in Ebonyi State, Southeastern Nigeria.

The total number of people arrested is no fewer than 26 suspects.

These suspects have been arrested over the recent killings that happened in the Ekoli Edda community in the Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The Ebonyi State Police command had claimed during a press conference in Abakiliki on Monday that the suspects were responsible for the killing that pervaded the area on 26 December 2022.

The incident saw the death of two persons including a police inspector, and two houses torched down in the process.

Furthermore, the command also accused the suspects of arson, conspiracy, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms.

Notwithstanding, the Ebonyi State Police has vowed that the suspects must face the wrath of the law, despite the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry set up by Governor David Umahi, of the state.

However, the prompt intervention of Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Nweze Umahi was instrumental to abate the hostilities.

The Governor had ordered that the two perpetrators of the conflict be arrested and detained even though they are key members of his political parties.

In a bid to restore people in the affected area, the governor has visited the area more than three times, and eventually constituted a Board of Enquiry and Reconciliation headed by distinguished Senator Sunny Ogbuoji.

Among those arrested were the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, and a former chairman of the Afikpo South LGA and Federal House of Representatives candidate for Afikpo North/South Constituency in the 2023 general election, Eni Chima.
