PDP Governors to Protest at INEC

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Iyorchia Ayu, will on Monday (today) lead some governors elected on the platform of the party on a protest march. They will be marching to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Abuja, over the outcome of the February 25 presidential election.

This has brought fear to the minds of Abuja citizens as the march may result in violence. Besides, no one wants unrest. This protest is over the anger towards INEC concerning the conduct and outcome of the polls.

The governors participating in the march are Governors Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Darius Ishaku of Taraba, and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

Furthermore, the march is scheduled to take off at 10 a.m. at the PDP headquarters, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

The PDP, after rejecting the outcome of the election, released a memo on Sunday inviting the governors to the protest march. Also invited were former Senate Presidents, David Mark and Bukola Saraki, Board of Trustees members, National Executive Committee members, National Working Committee members. Directors, Deputy Directors, and Assistant Directors of the National Election Management Committee, Presidential Campaign Council members, as well as Persons Living With Disabilities.

Participants are to wear black attire in demonstration of the somber mood of the party.

APC warns the PDP

The All Progressive Congress has warned the PDP against inciting the public with this protest march. The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, said it would be better for the PDP to focus on the court case they filed rather than disturbing public peace.

The FCT Police Command has assured citizens that there will be adequate security officials. They will ensure the safety of lives and properties during the march.

The protest again promises to be a peaceful one.
