A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Remmy Hazzan, has expressed displeasure over some issues. His concerns were over the voter register used by the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct the 2023 general election.

Further, Hazzan is the Senior Special Adviser on Public Communications to Governor Dapo Abiodun. He lamented that the names of registered voters on INEC were full of dead people. Also, the names were supposed to be taken off the list.

He cast his vote at polling unit six, ward 14, in the Omu area of Odogbolu Local Government, Ogun State.

Hazzan noted that INEC was building on the 1999 voter register. He said the election body should reprocess the entire voter registration. Beyond this, INEC’s failure to remove the names of dead people from the list contributed to reported voter apathy. In addition, he observed that in this election, the highest turnout of voters was recorded. But, on checking the voter register, there are dead people on the list.

Equally important, Hazzan said his own dead father’s name was still on the list. INEC should have a plan to know when voters die and remove their names from the list.

Lastly, his advice was that, at a convenient time not too far away, INEC should reprocess the voter registers. This is so that the register can be an appropriate measurement for voter turnout.
