Some reports are going around that a Rivers DPO shot dead an inspector attached to his division. The Rivers State Police Command has denied such reports. A spokeswoman for the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, denied these claims in a statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Equally important, she said there was no shooting. Further, she added that there was no police facility called “9th Mile Police Station” in any part of Rivers State. This was the location mentioned in the trending false report. Iringe-Koko, in the statement, describes the false publication as a way of creating panic in people’s minds. Besides, this will plant seeds of discord within the police force. Records also show that there is no such named police officer in Rivers State.

Also, the Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong, urged citizens to go about their daily lives. He assured them that the police is able to protect them. Effiong promises that the Rivers State Police Command will discharge its duties efficiently. Lastly, media platforms and journalists were advised to verify stories before publication.
