On Friday, a fully loaded truck carrying baskets fell on the road. This incident occurred at New Tarzan Motors at the Upper Iweka Junction along the Onitsha-Owerri Road, Anambra State. The crash happened while the driver was trying to navigate the bad portion of the road. No lives were lost.

Furthermore, the incident caused gridlock on the road. Motorists and pedestrians had to use a small part of the road that wasn’t blocked. The truck was heading to Onitsha Main Market from the Oba Expressway. Again, the truck driver lost control when he was going through the bad portion of the road. The truck was overloaded, and this also made it lose balance.

There was no loss of life. People and tricycles close to the truck managed to flee before it finally fell.

The road is bad and needs repair. Heavy-duty trucks find it hard to navigate through that part of the road and sometimes fall in the process. Besides, eyewitnesses lamented that no relevant agencies came to control the traffic. Motorists and pedestrians battled the gridlock all through the night on their own.

Finally, as of 10:00 a.m., the truck was still on the road. No attempt was made by the authorities to clear the road.
