Morroco have overtaken Senegal to become the best African football team in the latest FIFA ranking for the just concluded 2022 world cup in Qatar.
The Atlas Lion used to be the 22nd position in the world and 2nd in Africa, but have moved 11 places to become the 11th best in the world and best in Africa.
The ranking is coming after their brilliant performance at the biggest football event in the world.
Further more, Morroco reached the semi-finals of the world cup in Qatar, making them the only African nation to ever reach that stage in the history of the FIFA tournament, though they lost to France.
Morroco emerged as top of their football group after beating Portugal, Belgium and Canada and drawing with Croatia.
Morroco’s top performance during the tournament made waves globally; impressing media globally and fans.
Gianni Infantino, FIFA president also affiirmed to the press that Morroco played great, and “we must praise Morroco’s performance” he added.
The FIFA president also emphasized that “Morroco represented two countries” as the stood in for both Arab and Africa.
Morroco’s appearance in the 2022 world cup happens to be their sixth appearance in the history of world cup.
Morroco qualified for the first time in 1970.
